I created this pattern as a first project in my Knit II class.  The triangular shawl incorporates a tab start using a provisional cast-on and has many elements that an adventurous beginning knitter needs in preparation for their first project.  The pattern is infinitely customizable and suitable for any weight of yarn.  The specs below are for the two samples I knitted for class.  If you decide to use a different weight yarn, the quantity needed will change.  450 yards of fingering weight yarn will make a small shawl to cover your shoulders.

Approx. 450+ yards of Fingering weight yarn
Needle:  Size 5 circular (24-32″ long)
Gauge:  20sts / 28 rows in 4″ over stockinette (after blocking)
4 Stitch Markers
Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
